In these crazy, fascist times, there is possibly, just possibly, a beacon (at least a candle) of hope, for people (and some nations) rally around Cuba as the oil embargo signifies that the slow genocidal campaign by the US approaches the climax.

A candle of hope because in a world as revealed (among other emanations) by the Epstein files as utterly corrupt, Cuba remains remarkably virtuous.  With the revolution, started by thirty guerrillas, they threw out a dictator and his US capitalist (plus mafia) backers, they returned their spoils to the commons, they brought in health and education systems which other nations envied, they created a society of equality, they got rid of racism, they emancipated the women in a traditionally macho society, they helped poor countries, they seriously assisted in the struggle to defeat the South African apartheid state, plus they sang and danced with skill and verve.

The US capitalists and their political lackeys were angry and bitter and ever since have tried to reclaim the island. Early on they assembled a’liberation’ army of ICE-type thugs and invaded, only to be defeated in 48 hours. They blew up passenger planes and funded opposition movements and instigated an economic blockade which year after year, in the UN is overwhelmingly voted illegal. Bully-boy Trump is now ‘solving’ the issue.

Can the Cubans resist? If there were massive international people-support they just might. They’re organised, they’re not corrupt, they have a history, they’re close to the US and Central America so flotilla don’t have far to travel, there’re a few debts to be repaid, they sing and dance so well they could capture once more, the popular imagination.

In these dark days, something is required.
